Large 11x14" appointment certificate for Solomon Frank Baker as 2nd Lieutenant in the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps dated 20 April 1918 and signed by the Assistant Secretary of War and the Adjutant General of the Army. Accompanying the commission is a large 6.5 x 10.5" formal portrait of Lt Baker in helmet and goggles, the portrait housed in a photographer's folio. Additionally there is a lovely sepia tone 4 x 5" photo of 5 aviators in their leather coats and helmets with goggles. Lt. Baker is lower right and the two in the front row have the rare hard hats. All items very good or better condition.
