All are vintage photos; many are original press photos with press releases pasted to the reverse.

  • WWI Aviator Photo Album - 1918

    SKU: 22-P-128

Very comprehensive album of Lt. Thomas E. Beck, US Air Service, with 84 b&w photos taken over the period March-November 1918 while he was at the School of Military Aeronautics, University of Texas, Austin and then in training at Taliaferro Field, Fort Worth.  Apparently he was also stationed at Norfolk, Virginia near the end of the war.  This is a very complete record including personnel, fellow students, crashes, aerial shots, gun camera footage, etc.  Many are annotated with location and date on the pages beneath the photos.  Some photos pasted in, others with corner mounts.  Generally about good plus. (Automatic shopping cart ordering not active for this item.  Inquire and an invoice will be sent.)

  • WWI Ellington Field Photo Album - circa 1918

    SKU: 22-P-127

Vintage album, one photo per page, each photo an original 8x6" of this famous WWI Houston flight training field.  12 photos total of both ground and aerial shots (only two shown here).  I think this is the finest WWI aviation album I have encountered in the last 20 years.  Very good.

  • 1924 National Balloon Race Photo Collection

    SKU: 22-P-126

Eight (8) vintage 7x9" b&w photos of the Apr23, 1924 National Balloon Race start at Brooks Field, San Antonio (only 2 of 8 photos shown here).  Both ground and aerial shots of this event attended by 100,000 spectators with 7 balloons competing for a spot in the 1925 Gordon Bennett Race.  Winner was a balloon piloted by W.T. Van Orman and C.K. Woolam (also won the 1925 Gordon Bennett).  Balloons entered were from the French-American Balloon Company, the Aircraft Development Company of Detroit, Goodyear Tire and Rubber and two balloons from the U.S. Army.  Fantastic and likely unique photo group.  Very good; light glue residue on reverse.  ON HOLD

  • Pioneer Aerial Mail Card (AAMC3a) - 1911

    SKU: 22-P-125

Fancy pictorial card, 5.5x3.25", both sides pictured.  Flown and postmarked on Sep 27, 1911 during the famous International Aviation Meet in Garden City, New York.  Most mail is pretty plain but this card is very graphic and pictorial with a photo of the Moisant Monoplane.  About fair condition with edge bumps, and light folds (what to expect after 108 years of kicking around!)  Rare card of one of the very earliest airmail flights. (Automatic ordering not available.  Inquire and an invoice will be sent)

A large group of 45, 4.5x3.5" b&w photos of crashed DH-4's (plus two smaller at 4.25x2.5"). Most are marked in ink or pencil on the reverse: "Brooks Field" and several have the names of the crashing pilots and observers!  Light remnants on old glue on the back. In general very good condition.  (Not eligible for shopping cart ordering.  Inquire and an invoice will be sent)

  • Fort Crockett Landing Field Galveston Photo - circa 1925

    SKU: 22-P-123

B&W 9x7" aerial shot of a small landing field with one large hangar, 5 aircraft and 5 autos parked nearby.  Strange excavations across the road from the field sure look like sand traps on a golf course!  On the reverse in pencil: "Landing Field, Ft. Crockett, Galveston, Texas"; also light glue remnants. Very good condition.  In the negative far lower left corner: "23"; most likely another 24th Photo Section, Brooks Field photo.

    Price: $15.00
  • Unit Photo Brooks Field - circa 1925

    SKU: 22-P-122

Group 8x10" b&w photo of 63 officers in front of a DH-4.  Ink on reverse: "Brooks Field".  It looks to me as if the commanding officer is standing to the left in the light khaki riding pants.  All others seem to have officer rank on their collars.  My guess is that this is an advanced flying training class transitioning into the DH-4.  About good; short margin tears at the left.

  • Biggs Field El Paso Photo - 1925

    SKU: 22-P-121

B&W 9x7" aerial photo with text in negative: "No. 570 - 24th P.S. [Photo Section] - Landing Field El Paso TEX - 8:50 A.M. - 5.29.25 - Alt. 600 Ft."  It seems obvious that the 24th Photo Section at Brooks Field took aerial photos of regional air fields to orient pilots should they be on cross-country flights.  This one is in excellent condition with light glue residue on the reverse.
