Small but curious and unique lot of papers and drawings related to a suggestion for a new U.S. Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross to be equivalent to the Army award. The lot consists of:
1) Two Special Orders, each marked "Restricted" appointing 1st Lt Gordon C Preller as Asst Awards and Decorations Officer and then as Chief Awards and Decorations Officer, Maxwell Field, Alabama, Aug and Oct 1945
2) Two pencil drawings, one large of the obverse of the suggested award and the other of both the obverse and reverse. Text beneath reads: "Golden decoration with blue enamel trim as shown. White stars and blue background". Both are signed lower right as "October 1945/G. Preller"
3) Large (6" high by 3" wide) and heavy bronze metal eagle which obviously served as the model for the eagle in the proposed decoration.
Very interesting proposed decoration that never came to pass. Of historic value to collectors and scholars of U.S. medals and decorations. Very good condition.
