Amazing lot with a central piece of fabric (3 x 6.25") from the Travel Air Type S Mystery Ship, cut from the aircraft and mailed as a postcard. But equally important is the handwritten two-page letter from the pilot, Jimmie Haizlip, describing his crash in St. Louis, 1930, and authenticating the fabric! This particular Mystery Ship was registered as NR-482N and flown by Haizlip (a well-known WWI pilot) and Jimmy Doolittle. It had a consistent air race history that is well documented but was eventually destroyed (likely in this crash). Included in the lot is the fabric piece (of course) and the original authenticating letter from Haizlip along with several related research articles. All items very good or better condition. A unique and historically valuable lot, not to be found again.
