Short 5.5" long, finned and constant diameter model flechette as dropped by the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) on German troops in WWI. Typically hundreds of these darts would be loaded in a dispensing can which the pilot or observer would hold over the side of the cockpit. The pilot would turn a handle on the top of the canister which opened a door on the bottom through which the flechettes dropped. These flechettes were known to penetrate steel helmets and to kill cavalry horses. Made of soft steel and usually somewhat rusty.
