From a NASA warehouse of parts is a 6"L x 2"W x 1/2"H piece of solid brown ceramic insulation with a 1/16" aluminum backing plate. This is a remarkable material with the ability to dissipate intense heat very quickly. (I used to demonstrate this to sophomores at the Air Force Academy by heating a piece to glowing hot and then picking it up by the edges with my bare fingers!) The accompanying paper tag reads: "NASA Space shuttle flown insulation tile". Very good condition; some ink numbers on the tile side.
