  • History of Pheasant Aircraft - circa 1929

     "Dirty purple" transcription by Leo Brown of newspaper articles from the Memphis [Missouri] Democrat & Reveille.  Transcribed for the Scotland County Public Library in 1978.  53pp, 8.5x11", covers the period 1927-1929.  Included is a 1979 handwritten 4-page letter about many of the early aviation personalities surrounding the Pheasant.  Very good.   • First Four Issues of the ANTIQUE AIRPLANE ASSOCIATION NEWS - 1953

     Volume I, Numbers 1-4.  Each issue is two sheets of 8.5x14" paper, printed one side.  First page is text with second page of classified ads.  The inaugural issue speaks to the goals of the publication, the initiation of a fly-in, a photo contest and a yearly membership fee of $1.00!  Each issue was folded once for mailing and hand-addressed.  Two issues have been mailed, the others are unused.  Duplicates in this lot are two of Number 3 and three of Number 4.  About very good.  An important early record of this important historical aircraft organization.

     Davis, Larry.  GUNSHIPS - A Pictorial History of Spooky.  Squadron/Signal Publ, 1982.  64pp, heavily illus, wrps, 8.5x11".  Covers gunship models B-25, B-26, C-47, C-119, C-123 and C-130 gunships (plus other more minor players).  Excellent.  Fascinating history of these remarkable and deadly aircraft.  Personal note: I cleared the firing range for the AC-130's at Ubon RTAFB, 1968 and got to personally watch them wipe out jet engine cans.  Looked like a twinkling star at night as the guns fired!  SOLD

     Typed manuscript by Frank Scholle.  97pp, 8.5x11", loose pages, copy sent to interested parties as stated in the included letter to collector Hans Dam.  First six pages are a history of this Cincinnati airport from 1927-1955.  Following is a description of airport activities and then an index of important people who were connected to Mt. Healthy.  Finally there are personal accounts by about 15 important personalities in the Mt. Healthy story.  Very good. SOLD

     Rutherford, Roy.  Colonel Roscoe Turner Knight-Errand of the Air.  Privately Printed, 1947.  36pp, 10pp of photos front and back, 6x9", wrps.  Interesting little biography of Turner who wont the Thompson Tropy three times, and the Bendix once, second place in the McRobertson race from London to Melbourne, awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, etc.  A real swashbuckling flambouyant figure in the Golden Age of Aviation.  Book in very good condition; pasted label over cover price is missing but left glue residue behind.
