  • Airship "Akron" Duralumin Ashtray

     Stamped ashtray (4.5" diameter) with text around the flat:  "Duralumin", "Used in the Airship Akron", "Goodyear Zeppelin Corporation".  Additionally there is a 1.25" shield picturing the Akron in the center-bottom with similar text to that stamped on the lip of the ashtray.  Very good.  One of the nicer Akron souvenirs and in very good condition.  SOLD

     (Staff of the Public Library of Fort Wayne and Allen County). First Aerial Voyage Across the English Channel, Diary of Dr. John Jeffries, the Aeronaut.  24pp, illus, wrps, 6.5x9.5".  Reprint of an article first published in the Magazine of American History, Jan 1885.  Jeffries was an American medical doctor whose family came to America from England in 1677.  Jeffries crossed the Channel in 1785 with Aeronaut Blanchard.  Very good; some cover toning.   • Akron Crash Memorial Postal Cover - 1934

    SKU: 21-ZEPP-347

     Large black-bordered 9.5x6" cover.  Postmarked Lakehurst, NJ on the 1st anniversary of the crash of the U.S.S. Akron.  Celebrates the various milestones of this airship and the blimp J-3 lost in the search for the Akron survivors.  Backstamped at North Canton, Ohio near the site of the Akron's construction.  Appropriately the stamp used is the Byrd Antarctic Expedition II 3 cent commemorative.  Very good.  {Another available as described above but with Barnegat, NJ, postmark near the site of the Akron Crash.  Same price, your choice} (2) SOLD

     Invitation to Philadelphia Aeronautical Recreation Society inflation of the balloon "Philadelphia" on June 27, 1908.  Signed by a member at right margin.  Postcard size 5.75x3.75".  About good, two tape pieces on reverse not affecting image.  Very early and colorful balloon piece.

  • Early Balloon Letterhead - circa 1905

     Letterhead paper (unused) for C.C. Phelps. balloon manufacturer and exhibition company.  Colorful photo and text along with a date block:  ......190..  So this must have been intended for 1900-1909, a very popular period for ballooning at state fairs and other celebrations.  Very good, small chip lower right corner.   • 1933 Century of Progress Souvenir Card

     Small 3.75x2.75" card with a photo of the Goodyear "Puritan" launching.  Ink inscription on the reverse: "Goodyear "Puritan" ride in this July 11, 1933".  My guess is that this card was presented to passengers who flew on the Puritan during the Century of Progress Expo.  Excellent.
